HARIO V60 Filter - Ceramic
The Hario V60 is probably the most used hand filter in the coffee universe and for good reason. It's easy to use and still offers a steep learning curve with many experimental possibilities. What's practical about the V60: we and many other roasteries offer standard recipes for the V60. So brewing is quite simple.
The V60 is particularly well suited for coffee amounts between 15 and 30 grams of ground coffee.
Product features of the Hario V60 porcelain
- Each of these filters from Hario is handcrafted in Japan from Aita-yaki, a traditional Japanese porcelain.
- Thanks to the base, the filter can be placed directly on a cup or a suitable carafe, such as the glass carafe by Trendglas Jena. However, the dripper is designed so that air can escape from the carafe at all times. With many filters (Chemex for example), air cannot escape properly and this stops the water from dripping.
- V60s have a conical shape angled at 60 degrees. The conical shape creates a deeper coffee bed, which with smaller amounts of ground coffee (up to 30 grams of coffee) ensures more uniform extraction than cylindrical filters. If we change the coffee amount with a conical filter like the V60, the brewing behavior differs less than with hand filters like the Kalita with a flat bottom.
- The filter has built-in drainage ridges at the edge that allow the brew water to run off to the sides as well. This allows fines (the smallest coffee particles) to be caught in many places on the filter and clogging is rather unlikely.
- The correct filter size corresponds to Hario's hand filter size 01 or 02.
- There is a variety of different filter papers from various manufacturers, which provides plenty of room for experimentation.
- The hand filter is dishwasher safe.
- The dimensions of the filter in size 02: height 97mm, base diameter 105mm, top opening diameter 113mm. The weight is approximately 343g.
- The glass V60 is thermally stable but absorbs a lot of the brewing water temperature - even when preheated. For this reason, a high brewing temperature of 96 to 99 degrees is recommended for filter coffee. With darker coffees, lower temperatures should be used.
Why do we sell the Hario V60 02?
We have many enthusiastic filter coffee drinkers on our team and use the Hario V60 intensively, privately and in the academy. We like the design, the simplicity, the robustness and especially the result in the cup. With the V60, you can nicely play with the range of filter coffee. The V60 brews balanced coffees that on the one hand have good body and lots of sweetness, while on the other hand balance acidity well.
