Coffea Futurica Podcast: Melanie Rutten-Sülz, Solidaridad

What are the consequences of climate change for coffee production, for the people, for the beverage, and indeed for the entire industry?

NGOs put their finger on the sore spots. And they have been doing so for years. That's a good thing, and especially now, when all companies present themselves as green and conscious, we need those who keep asking the same questions and strive for real change.

Melanie Rutten-Sülz is the managing director of Solidaridad Deutschland, co-founded the voluntary standard 4C in the early 2000s, and knows the negotiations between multinational companies, institutions, and small-scale producers. She has a lot to tell, she has seen a lot, accomplished a lot, and has been involved in a lot.

And when someone like her, who has been working in the coffee sustainability sector for more than 20 years, says that things are not moving as fast as we would like, that is a clear wake-up call to take action.

Coffee is part of climate change. We all can help determine whether it becomes more part of the solution or part of the problem.
