When should you replace the retention ring?

There are two typical scenarios for this replacement:

1. The classic cleaning situation: You've removed the basket for thorough cleaning, rinsed out the portafilter, and the ring has slipped out of the groove.

2. Loss of tension: If you install and remove your basket very frequently, the steel can gradually fatigue over time. You'll notice this when the basket flies out together with the coffee puck when you knock it against the knock box (knockbox).

Important note about third-party manufacturers: Although the ring has a nominal diameter of 51mm, the depth and shape of the retention groove on original DeLonghi portafilters or accessories from other brands are often minimally different. We can therefore only guarantee precise fit for our own KM portafilter heads.
