For two years now, we have been coffee farmers. We have invested in the Finca Santa Rita coffee farm in Nicaragua. A completely new experience that has had many impacts on our daily work. With our involvement in the coffee farm, we now operate across the entire cultivation chain. This makes our training even more practical. Everything we teach there is knowledge from our own work.
We have been running gastronomic projects including the Café frühling for years, and as roasters we have many years of professional experience. Through Santa Rita, we now also cover coffee agriculture.
In addition to very practical experience in agriculture, botany, plant nursery operations, planting density, harvesting and processing, we gain background knowledge and insights. This includes yield calculation, knowledge of production costs, and more.
All of this also flows into our collaboration with other coffee producers and partners in other countries. The better we understand the dynamics and risks of coffee cultivation, the more we adapt our purchasing accordingly and approach negotiations differently, as well as calculate prices based on production costs. However, all of this is a learning journey, which we report on in this video.
