Profitec Pro 600 Test and Experiences

The Profitec Pro 600 is an interesting dual boiler espresso machine from the manufacturer in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. With two PID-controlled boilers for steam and brew water, two pressure gauges, and a vibration pump, the Profitec Pro 600 is one of the more affordable dual boiler espresso machines. The stainless steel boilers have a volume of 1 liter for steam and 0.75 liters for brew water. The steam boiler can be switched off, which significantly reduces power consumption.

The Profitec Pro 600 is equipped with a Faema E61 brew group and accordingly accepts portafilters with a diameter of 58 mm. This also makes the machine compatible with standard baskets and tampers.

In addition to the Profitec Pro 600, many other dual boilers are available on the test list.

Heat-up time to the first espresso

After just a few minutes, the machine indicates that the boiler has reached the target temperature. However, this does not correspond to the actual brew temperature that prevails at this time. We measured temperature curves after 10 and 15 minutes and were still far from the target temperature even after a flush shot to heat up the portafilter.

No surprise! Espresso machines with Faema E61 brew groups usually need 25 minutes to really reach the target temperature. This is also the case with the Profitec Pro 600.

After 25 minutes, the Profitec Pro 600 reaches the target temperature with a flush shot. Even during extraction, the espresso machine is then constant and precise. That's a pleasure.

    Temperature after 25 minutes

When checking the Profitec Pro 600 with the WBC protocol, we found that the Profitec with a high cycle rate of 35 seconds between shots is by no means overwhelmed. In fact, the espresso machine tends to overheat. The protocol makes it clear that the machine is very consistent once it reaches its target temperature after a longer running time. Then it is very precise and cannot be thrown off if the frequency of shots is not increased too much.
