Spring Roasters x inthenameof = Kaffeemacher Roastery

We say yes to each other! Our two roastery projects Spring Roasters and inthenameof are now joining forces under the new name Kaffeemacher Roastery. A look back, an explanation, and a preview.

    The founding in January 2017

With the founding of Kaffeemacher GmbH in January 2017, our two roastery projects launched simultaneously: Spring Roasters, the coffee roastery behind the Café frühling, began operations. This created a coffee brand that we gave time to establish itself in Café frühling and then gradually expand throughout the city and beyond Basel's borders.

We also started creating brands for others with in the name of. We called it "Private Label Speciality Coffee" – and we'll continue to do so. We really like the approach of creating a brand for others and roasting coffee according to our private label customers' specifications. Sylvia Vonlanthen was one of our first customers, and she now successfully runs Café Vonlanthen with her family. Ricola came on board shortly after as a well-known customer, allowing this roastery project to grow steadily.

Competition successes soon followed for the young team. Spring Roasters roasted the coffee for Agnieszka Rojewska for the Polish championship in 2018, which she won.

At the Swiss Roasting Championships 2018, Felix came in second and proved his strength at the roasting drum.

    Neutral in our approach

We didn't launch the two roastery projects under the name Kaffeemacher because we wanted to remain visibly neutral with the school as the Kaffeemacher Academy. We train, advise, and guide many roastery projects, develop roasting profiles together, and import coffee jointly. The Academy is an exchange and networking hub on the coffee market for everyone who wants to work with us.

Over the past two years, we've realized that our neutrality and willingness to share knowledge with everyone who wants to work with us doesn't depend on our name. It's much more our fundamental approach to operating this way. Many people in very different projects and companies have understood this and seek collaboration with us.

By consolidating our roastery projects under the Kaffeemacher umbrella, many things become simpler for us. Less duplicate communication, fewer channels and websites to maintain, and so on. It will also be much easier for you in the future to understand what we as Kaffeemacher do. And for us, it will be much easier to explain how our activities are interconnected.

    Same service, new image

We're still the same, just now under one name. For us, this is a conscious step to transfer the brand values of Kaffeemacher to our roastery as well. Accessibility, transparency, and a clear point of view.

We'll continue to offer contract roasting, simply no longer under the name inthenameof, but as Kaffeemacher. The coffees in our range are still the same, just with new labels and increasingly more information behind each coffee. You may have already noticed: with all our new coffees, we communicate the FOB price and include an explanatory video.

To do justice to this development graphically, we'll launch new packaging later this year. There's still quite a bit ahead of us that we're really looking forward to.

And what about the Co-Roasting Space?

From the very beginning, it was our concern to be an open roastery where everyone can see behind the scenes. We have no inhibitions about this. With the Co-Roasting Space (CRS), we've given expression to this approach. The CRS is our roastery, which we rent from ourselves. Others can also rent it, such as Recolecta Coffee, TEIKEI or Ruby Rambo.

This concept will continue to exist. We love the exchange, even during roasting, and we're happy to help others roast their own coffee.

    And what else is coming?

Quite a bit, we promise you. We want to communicate our coffees as transparently as possible in the future. We want to delve more into price formation, tell more about the challenges of coffee production, and will clearly share our perspective on central pillars of our work such as sustainability and transparency.

    From now on: Kaffeemacher Roastery

The dialogue could go something like this:

Priest: "inthenameof, do you take Spring Roasters to be your lawful partner, to honor, cherish, and all the rest?"

    And both say:

    "Yes, we do."

Heartfelt congratulations to the newly married!
